Understanding Sciatica

Sciatica is the term used for irritation of the sciatic nerve, which starts in our spine and travels down the back of our legs. Pain is often felt along the course of this nerve with extreme numbness or tingling sensation. Irritation of the nerve can be due to the various structures it has to pass through or beneath to reach the muscles it brings power to. Sciatica can be present as an acute or chronic symptom and is often related to posture, sitting long hours, pregnancy, lack of exercise and poor sleep patterns. Chiropractors help to eliminate this irritation by reducing pressure and unwanted stress to the nerve as it functions in the body. Adjusting, soft tissue work, and postural correction drastically reduces symptoms experienced with chronic or acute sciatic nerve pain.
